Frequently asked questions

How do I check my WordPress version myself?

In the WordPress admin, open Dashboard > Updates, or Tools > Site Health > Info > WordPress. With WP-CLI, run wp core version. On the server, the version is in wp-includes/version.php.

The checker could not see my version. Is that bad?

No, it is good practice. Many sites remove the version from the generator tag and file URLs so attack bots cannot target known versions. Check it in your admin instead.

Is it safe to update WordPress?

Yes, with a backup and a quick test. Update on a staging copy first if you can, then update plugins and themes, and check your forms, checkout and most visited pages.

Does my PHP version matter too?

Yes. WordPress runs on PHP, and old PHP versions no longer get security fixes. Our free PHP version checker tells you whether your server needs an update.

What happens with my email and website?

We email you a code to confirm your address, then your report. Your email, website and result go to our team and CRM so an engineer can help, and we may occasionally email you about your website; you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not share your details with anyone else.
